Welcome on the site of the "Narrow Gauge Foundation SVS in The Netherlands"
The narrow gauge foundation SVS, in The Netherlands aims to preserve narrow gauge railway equipment in the broadest sense in order to display and demonstrate this to the public. We are a young organization, founded on the first of July 2005.
Narrow gauge railways are a bygone mode of mass transport, used by industrial enterprises. Nowadays most companies have replaced these little trains by lorries or other means of transportation, including pipelines.
In The Netherlands, industrial narrow gauge transportation was often used on brickwork sites. Also in the eastern parts, where peat was quarried, it was long used in favor of lorries. Lorries tend to sink into the ground, where rails distributes loads more evenly.
In due time, the foundation will be able to transport passengers over their own track, making it possible to let them experience "the past" by actually taking part. Supplementary, we aim to establish a small museum where we can display attributes relating to industrial narrow gauge history. We will also go into the close relationship between the trains and brick manufacture.
Please have a pleasant stay on our site, browse freely and enjoy the industrial narrow gauge atmosphere. Be advised that at the moment we are expanding rapidly. Would you like to be kept up to date, please fill out the form on " houd mij op de hoogte", or: "please keep me informed".
